Understanding the differences between High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), PA+PE (Polyamide + Polyethylene), and Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) packaging film rolls is essential for choosing the right material for your business. Below, we highlight the key distinctions between these three types of polyethylene-based films.


High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

Material Characteristics:
HDPE is a high-density material, making it harder and more durable. It is typically opaque in color.

Applications:
HDPE is a cost-effective packaging solution, widely used in e-commerce.

Air Retention and Shipping:

  • Bubble, Tube, and Column Packaging: Suitable for shipping times between 3–5 days and retains air for around 7 days.

  • Pillow HDPE: Suitable for shipping times up to 10 days and retains air for over 15 days.

Long-Term Performance:
HDPE packaging never fully deflates—instead, it gradually becomes slightly softer over time while still providing cushioning protection.


PA+PE (Polyamide + Polyethylene)

Material Characteristics:
PA+PE is a multilayer co-extruded film that combines the strength of polyamide (PA) with the flexibility and sealability of polyethylene (PE). It has a clear, slightly glossy finish and high structural integrity.

Applications:
Ideal for heavy-duty and long-distance shipping, PA+PE is commonly used in column or air chamber packaging where durability and air retention are critical.

Air Retention and Performance:

  • Offers superior air retention, maintaining full inflation for 30+ days or more.

  • Designed for international shipping, or for high-value or fragile items that require extended protection.

  • Excellent puncture resistance and load-bearing capacity.

  • Maintains shape and cushion under pressure.

  • Preferred for premium protective packaging solutions.


Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

Material Characteristics:
LDPE is a softer, more flexible plastic that is transparent in appearance, offering a smooth and aesthetically pleasing finish.

Applications:
LDPE is ideal for premium packaging or situations where packaging is inflated in advance and stored.

Air Retention and Storage:

  • Retains air for over 14 days, with many tests showing it can remain inflated for several months.

  • Ideal for operations that require pre-inflated packaging to be stored without air loss.
